It Takes Passion to Get to the Next Level

Last week, I was privileged to join the alumni panel at Specs Howard School of Media Arts. As we began to have a discussion I reflected When I first began the i.Nfluence Network, I didn’t know much about graphics or Photoshop, my skills were less than mediocre. I possessed other skills, such as marketing and video editing, but that wasn’t enough to be successful. Because of this, I became discouraged early on, and believed that I wasn’t good enough. I had 3 choices. I could be defeated, I could continue to produce mediocre work (since there were still positive results) or I could find a way to learn more about more industry and step my game up. Here’s how passion made the decision for me.

  1. Identify Your Passion – What are you passionate about? While I am a true marketer at heart, the thought of being better at Marketing wasn’t enough to motivate me to hop on the highway straight from work to drive 2 hours to Detroit to sit in a 4 hour class, then drive 2 hours back home. It just wasn’t. The turning point and AHA moment for me was when a client asked if I could provide more of a variety when creating fliers and I couldn’t. That was it. I knew she deserved better, I knew that they all did and that was the key. I was most passionate about my client’s growth.
